A favorite nap spot for everyone from businessmen to bike messengers is the Sheep Meadow in Central Park, where buildings peer over the greenery like adoring parents. Or if you’re near the Empire State Building, try MetroNaps for a 20-minute, high-tech nap in a specially designed, futuristic “energy pod.”

If the weather’s nice, take advantage of the free wireless access and lawn tables of Bryant Park. If not, try the high-ceilinged Reading Room of the New York Public Library, located on the same block.

New York is heaven for foodies, who roam the streets with Zagat guide in hand, pointing out such culinary landmarks as Gotham Bar and Grill, Nobu, and Bouley. But maybe you’re looking for more traditional New York fare. Take a ferry across the East River or walk across the Brooklyn Bridge for coal-oven pizza at Grimaldi’s. Have a pastrami sandwich and a seltzer at the iconic Katz’s Deli. For bagels, check out Absolute Bagels on the Upper West Side.

If walking everywhere isn’t exercise enough for you, head to the river. New York’s “greenways” are trails perfect for running, cycling, and rollerblading. Along one of these, on the Hudson River, is the Chelsea Piers complex, which offers everything from kayaking to rock climbing to ice skating rinks to golf.
