You don’t have to drive all the way into the mountains to get a feel for the Rockies. The Horseshoe Trail at Golden State Canyon State Park is about an hour out of downtown Denver, and Roxborough State Park is about 40 minutes away. Both offer spectacular views and an exhilarating hike. Remember, though… the altitude takes some time to get used to.
